Schlink Frequently Asked Questions
When is the deadline for grant applications?
The deadline for grant requests for any given year is close of business April 30th and October 31st. Grant applications received after these grant deadlines will be rejected and the organization notified. The request may be resubmitted for the next grant cycle.
How often do you make grants?
The April grant cycle is generally paid in July. The October grant cycle is generally paid in January of the following year.
Do you make grants outside of Ohio?
Yes, we make grants all over the United States. Applicants from Ohio, and specifically Erie and Huron counties are favored and generally prioritized. We do not make grants outside the United States.
Do you have a limit on grant size, either minimum or maximum?
No, grants are made upon need, and not any preset formula, minimum or maximum.
If my grant is denied, can I apply again? Is there a waiting period after a denial?
Yes, you may apply again and there is no predetermined waiting period.
After I submit my grant application, what can I expect?
The board reviews grant applications monthly. If your grant request is denied, you will receive a letter. If your grant request is held for further consideration in the grant cycle for which it has been received, you will receive notification after the board has acted on all the applications for the grant cycle.
Would you or someone from the foundation be available to meet?
We conduct business as a board. We make every effort to treat each grant request equally. Therefore, meetings among one board member or a subset of board members are discouraged as a dialogue is not something that can be easily shared with the rest of the board. With the number of grant requests we receive every year, it would be impossible for the board to meet with each organization.
Can I attend a board meeting to learn more about your foundation or to present information on our special project?
We normally do not invite visitors to our board meetings. It is inconsistent with our efforts to treat each request equally.
Is the board receptive to muti-year grant requests?
We will consider multi-year grant requests subject to the impact on the Foundation’s grant capacity in future years.
